What we provide

The Ryder-Cheshire Ivanhoe Home is composed of three adjacent buildings containing a total of 43 self-contained studio (bed-sitter) apartments. Each apartment has two or three single beds, a fully equipped kitchenette, an en-suite bathroom, a TV and a telephone. Bed linen and towels are provided. All rooms have reverse cycle heating and cooling and lift access. There are laundry facilities in each building. A community room, located in Building 14, is equipped with a kitchenette, library area, large screen TV and lounge chairs and can be used by all residents.  There is adequate parking either on-site or in Donaldson Street. Apartments and linen are professionally cleaned before each new resident’s arrival.

A staff member, resident carer or volunteer is available 24 hours a day to offer support and assistance.

What we do not provide

We do not provide meals, medical supervision or nursing care. Residents must provide their own meals, keep their apartment clean and tidy and do their own laundry while staying at the Ivanhoe Home.  

Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the buildings or on the grounds except for a small rotunda behind Building 12. Residents are responsible for the cost of calls made from the land line telephones at the Ivanhoe Home. We do not provide WIFI access. Pets cannot be accommodated at the Ivanhoe Home, however, certified companion dogs and guide dogs are welcome. 

Location and surrounding area

The suburb of Ivanhoe is located about 9 kilometres north of the central business district of Melbourne. Ivanhoe has good transport, shopping, recreational and medical facilities.

The Ivanhoe Home is located at 10 – 14 Donaldson Street in Ivanhoe, which is a quiet residential street. The main shopping centre and station is about a 10 minute walk along Waterdale Road to the south. There is a bus stop around the corner in Bond Street (Bus travelling between Northland Shopping Centre and Ivanhoe train station) and the municipal swimming pool and gymnasium are at the end of Donaldson Street.  There is a small set of shops about a 10 minute walk to the north along Waterdale Road.
